Militärhistorisches MuseumOn the basis of a new and innovative exhibition concept meeting international standards, the Military History Museum will be expanded until 2010 according to the plans and the design of Daniel Libeskind and Professor H. G. Merz to constitute the lead museum of the Bundeswehr.
The construction work which starts in summer 2004 and the conceptual reorganization will make it necessary to close the main building. During this time, the exhibition will continue to be presented in a shed on the museum's premises which was renovated for this particular purpose. On an area of 3000 square metres, the museum presents the following temporary long-term exhibition:
The first part links the point of departure of any kind of museal exhibition activity - selected objects from collections and stocks - with the ongoing reconstruction and conceptual reorganization.
The second part of the exhibition which extends on a larger space, takes up the dynamic drama of the development in military history in which the Germans became involved after the World War II. This historical process is portrayed in the exhibition by means of a large number of museal objects, pictures, films and textual productions, many of them unique of their kind. The space available in this former industrial shed makes it possible to add expressive large exhibits typical for this time period such as tanks, airplanes, rockets, cannons and other objects to the exhibition.
